The Roseworth Music Program
At Roseworth Primary School we strongly believe in the value that music plays in developing our students as life long learners. There is no disputing the value of music to children. Research shows that participating and sharing in music increases all areas of a child’s intellectual development as well as making them happy. Music education supports the development of the student — their imagination, self-expression and their ability to share in the creativity of others.
We offer a music program to all of our students. Kindergarten and Pre Primary students participate in class based programs and have access to a wide range of musical experiences. Our Year 1 to Year 6 students have a specialist music program taught by Mrs Weldon, Mrs Mazurek and often times special guests such as Mr John Heyworth, Music Lecturer at Edith Cowan University.
Our music program has been operating since the opening of Roseworth Primary School and is a highly valued program in our school. Music has a strong tradition in our school which includes a strong focus in the school of enjoyment and participation in a structured class music program, opportunities for recorder ensembles, whole school singing, African drumming and of course the highly renowned Roseworth School Choir.
Our school assemblies are an opportunity for the school to join together in community singing and there are many performance opportunities for our school choir at Sing Festivals, public performances and to entertain community-based groups. Our choir has a tradition of performing at aged care facilities and also looks forward each year to performing for the West Coast View Club, a group of dedicated ladies who raise funds and provide resources for our school.
Music has become a special part of the make-up of our school and the quality of the program is outstanding. Your child will have many opportunities to develop a love of music and to participate and perform in musical activities.
Each class in the school is offered one music lesson per week as well as the opportunity to participate in before school African Drumming, Recorder Group and the School Choir which practices each Wednesday. Due to the popularity of joining the choir, this is offered only to students in year 5 and 6.
The Roseworth Choir is a major feature of our school with our choir becoming very well know for its outstanding performances at the annual Children Sing Fesival and at other special events to which it is invited to perform. Our choir has perfomed at the Perth Institute for Contemporay Arts and at Government House, just to name a few.
The following links will enable you to hear the Roseworth Primary School Choir sing. Please enjoy their performances just as we have over many years at our school.
