Year 6 Geo Challenge

During April of this year, Mr Carter came up with a great activity for a group of our year six students to do. Mr Carter has already been involved in Geocaching with our year 7 students and had heard of an activity called the HBF Geo-Challenge, Rottnest 2013. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. This competiton involved teams of three students with a teacher and was held on Rottnest Island. HBF and Nature Play WA sponsorded the event and covered all of the costs for the school. Our students spent the day on Rottnest Island, cycling around looking for hidden treasure using a GPS. This was a fantastic day for our students and teachers and a great learning activity.
